SDX® Spray Dry Nozzle Delavan is a series that sets the standard by which other nozzles are judged. Each of the five nozzles in the SDX® series is built on Delavan's unique design – a single-entry spiral swirl chamber and a highly polished nozzle disc. Delavan was the first to patent this revolutionary design, which not only minimizes clogging and maximizes particle uniformity but also provides a wider range of flow rates and spray angles. This means the nozzle can be precisely tuned to suit almost any dryer or application. This design improves dry product quality because the spiral configuration follows the natural flow path of the liquid towards the nozzle.

SDX® V

The SDX® V nozzle consists of eight parts and is the most user-friendly spray drying nozzle in the world, requiring only the nozzle body to be hand-tightened securely to the adapter throughout the entire pressure range. The SDX® V nozzle also offers improved lifespan, improved efficiency, and ease of maintenance, resulting in the lowest operating cost.

Features and Benefits:

  • Wear-related benefits are maintained during installation.
  • Compatible with the current SDX® range.
  • A new internal design reduces pressure loss within the nozzle.
  • A smaller, lighter, and compact design is more durable, easier to clean, and allows for quick disassembly and reassembly.
  • No wrenches or tools are required for nozzle assembly.
  • The minimal friction of the nozzle design allows for a 10-20% reduction in operating pressure compared to a conventional slotted nozzle, while providing comparable spray quality.
  • Extended pump life thanks to lower operating pressure.

Design and Materials:

  • 5-piece design with O-ring seals. The nozzle body and adapters are available in 316 stainless steel.
  • Consumable parts are made of tungsten carbide.
  • O-ring seals are made of silicone or Viton.
  • O-ring seals allow for tool-free assembly and disassembly.

SDX® V nozzle assembly procedure:

  • Place the nozzle body threaded side up on a flat surface.
  • Insert the orifice seal.
  • Place the orifice disc inside the nozzle body, inserting the orifice end first, i.e., the smallest diameter orifice, into the body orifice.
  • Place the swirl chamber on the orifice so that the larger flat surface (vortex end) contacts the orifice disc.
  • Ensure the disk seal ring is seated on the disk.
  • Press the disk into the body until the device presses against the rear surface of the swirl chamber. At this point, the disk seal ring will lock into the corresponding groove in the nozzle body. Place the body gasket into the body gasket groove located above the threads on the outside of the body.
  • Lift the assembled assembly and screw it into the female adapter.
  • Tighten by hand.

SDX®

  • Eight-piece design (see parts and materials list below).
  • Nozzle bodies, threaded pins, and adapters are available in 316 stainless steel. Other materials are available by special order.
  • Orifice plates are easily removable and are available in tungsten carbide, chromium carbide, and ceramic.
  • Swirl chambers are standardly made of tungsten carbide, hardened stainless steel, or ceramic.
  • End plates are available in tungsten carbide, chromium carbide, and ceramic.
  • The combined swirl chamber/end plate is available in tungsten carbide only.
  • Seals are available in nylon, PTFE, copper, hard fiber, and aluminum. Max. design pressure: 500 bar.G.
  • Max. design temperature: 540°C (metal seals), 150°C (other seals).

SDX® III

  • Six-piece design (see parts and materials list below).
  • O-ring seals allow for tool-free assembly and disassembly.
  • The body and adapters are made of hexagonal bar stock, while other materials are made of round bar stock with flat surfaces.
  • Nozzle bodies and adapters are available in 316 stainless steel. Other materials are available upon request.
  • The orifice nozzles are easily removable and available in tungsten carbide, chromium carbide, and ceramic.
  • The swirl chambers are standardly made of tungsten carbide, hardened stainless steel, or ceramic.
  • The end plates are available in tungsten carbide and ceramic.
  • The combined swirl chamber/end plate is available in tungsten carbide only. O-rings are made of silicone or Viton.
  • Max. design pressure: 350 bar.
  • Max. design temperature: 150°C

Mini SDX®

A unique swirl chamber is at the heart of the Delavan Mini SDX® nozzle design. The single spiral inlet configuration creates a natural, free-flowing swirl pattern. Friction is minimized, allowing for a 10-20% reduction in operating pressure compared to conventional slotted nozzles. This extends the life of both the pump and nozzle.

Design and Materials:

  • Five-piece design (see parts and materials list below).
  • The orifice disc, a press-fit insert, is recessed to protect against damage from drops or impacts.
  • Tighten with a wrench only when replacing the orifice disc by pressing it into the nozzle body with the assembly tool. Otherwise, do not tighten the wrench during assembly. Wrenching may cause the swirl chamber to crack.
  • The patented single-inlet swirl chamber minimizes clogging and maximizes particle uniformity.
  • The Viton O-ring seal allows for tool-free assembly and disassembly.
  • Replacing the press-fit orifice disc requires only the assembly tool (Part No. 36386).
  • Maximum design pressure: 350 bar.
  • Maximum design temperature: 150°C.

Compact SDX®

The Compact SDX® is a new, improved nozzle featuring easy assembly and more durable components. It is similar in size to the Mini SDX®, but features a wider flow range and wider spray angles.

Design and Materials:

  • Seven-piece design (see parts and materials list below).
  • Maximum Design Pressure: 345 bar.
  • Maximum Design Temperature: Determined by O-ring material.

Accessories

  • Conical Body - Prevents debris from accumulating on the front of the nozzle body. Other angles and materials are available upon request.
  • Check Valves - Several versions of anti-drip check valves are available for SDX® V nozzles. For more information, please contact the manufacturer.
  • Butt-weld adapter available in standard pipe sizes, angle configurations, and lengths, with custom versions available upon request. Ensure the adapter welds are made in accordance with applicable approvals and safety standards. SDX® V nozzle seal kits in various materials. Each kit contains 10 of each seal type. Delavan recommends replacing the seals after every work cycle.
  • Kwik-Chek:
    • No skill required. Untrained personnel can perform quick and accurate measurements.
    • Quick and easy calibration. A calibration standard is included with each gauge. This allows for quick, periodic calibration checks and, if necessary, field adjustments by workshop personnel.
    • The enlarged, direct-reading scale allows for easy reading of bore diameters to within 0.001 inch.
    • The precision-ground, conical needle is made of 52-100 steel and chrome-plated for maximum wear resistance.
    • A self-locking clutch locks the needle and scale to the exact bore size being measured.
    • The convenient, pocket-sized size and light weight make these gauges ideal for inspectors and engineers.
